Random Thoughts No Comments »

Hi everyone:

As you might be aware, I am changing addresses  — and have moved my blog over to a new address –
http://www.jenuinetech.com/blog

Except for the address change — you should not notice any difference.

I hope to see you at my new place. Grins, we should have a housewarming party.

Meme” Passion Quilt

Random Thoughts 4 Comments »

I have been tagged by Patrick Higgins — http://chalkdust101.wordpress.com/2008/02/13/meme-passion-quilt/ — to create a image that represents what I am most passionate about kids to learn.

The rules are as follows:

* Post a picture or make/take/create your own that captures what YOU are most passionate about for kids to learn about…and give your picture a short title.
* Title your blog post “Meme: Passion Quilt” and link back to this blog entry.
* Include links to 5 folks in your professional learning network

My passion is for collaborative learning online starting as young as PreK.  My passion is for teachers to bring fun back into the classroom.  And my passion is to never lose my joy in sharing with teachers about tech.

Here is my image:

Learning From Twitters….

Twitter 2 Comments »

It has been an interesting week for me with my use of Twitter. Actually, it has been an insane roller coaster ride and a couple of times I had to completely stop the ride, catch my breath, regroup, and decide if I truly wanted to get back on.

I am still trying to figure out the hold that twitter has on me and I am wondering if perhaps it is my “significant other” at this time in my life. LOL, now don’t over analyze that…..but just wondering if TWITTER is who I come home to chat with at night? I very much enjoy being single — but there is a niceness in coming home at the end of the evening and having someone to throw your thoughts out at, isn’t there? To recap the day, gripe a bit at times, share visions, laugh, cry, rejoice, and more! But what I enjoy most — is what I am learning.

So, this morning, when waking up at 4pm (this getting old is really getting old) — I decided to recap the last few hours of my “Twitter life” and share with you WHAT I HAVE LEARNED.

And that was just the techy stuff. I also learned some baseball trivia that I hope to be able to use someday, was given a link to a very funny “clean” comedian, found out that Maria played a 185 point word in Scrabulous, I said Happy Birthday’s to a couple of friends, wrote and received some very funny, very deep, and very interesting direct messages…………….etc etc etc.

So — what have you learned from twitter in the last few hours? Please share!!

Realizing AUGH is also in LAUGH…..

Projects No Comments »

The St. Patrick’s Day Project is almost ready to officially begin — with over 500 participants…..and it is exciting……

This week, however, as I was walking down the cereal aisle, I glanced at the Lucky Charm box and saw “DOUBLE CLOVERS”………….

AUGH — they are packing some boxes with double clovers!!  Now, in a way, that helps us because our hypothesis does include there being more clovers…..but on another hand, the results will now be skewed.

So — what to do, what to do.  Primarily, the main objective of this project is to bring a unique way of classifying, sorting, tallying, and comparison into the PreK - 3rd grade classroom…..the final results, though interesting to view, will not change the world, cure cancer, solve world hunger, etc etc……but they are an important part of the project.

So — I am in a wonderment today of what to do.  One possibility is to create 2 data sheets — one for a regular box and one for a double clover box and then compare results.  It would also be interesting to create a “geography” part of this and see exactly where the double boxes might have been sold.  There are possibilities here……

So when I got done with “AUGH”…..I did what I usually do….and I had to LAUGH!

It is always something — isn’t it?!?!?!

I have to admit that I still don’t use Del.icio.us like I should……..and I really need to work on that.

Not just that I share my bookmarks with others, but I take advantage of other’s expertise and great sites they have found on the internet.

So I was pleased when I received a message yesterday from TeachaKidd leading me to this information:

1. Go to del.icio.us (sign up for an account if you don’t have one already)
2. Click on Your Network (top left)
3. On the right-hand side, in the text box, type in Twitter_EdTech
4. Click ADD
5. Now Twitter_EdTech will appear in your network beneath in blue
6. Click on Twitter_EdTech
7. You are now in Twitter_EdTech’s bookmarks, but there are none… BUT WAIT
8. In the gray box at the top, it reads:
All Twitter_EdTech’s items (0)
Twitter_EdTech is in your network, view Twitter_EdTech’s network
9. Click on VIEW Twitter_EdTech’s Network

That’s where the magic happens. There you see all the bookmarks shared by everyone in the network, which can be a little messy OR you can look over at the right. There you can click on each member’s name and look at his/her individual bookmarks. You can even add each member to your own del.icio.us network. As more members join this Twitter_EdTech del.icio.us network, you’ll see them added.

I would invite you to check it out and please feel free to add me JLWagner (smiles, but somehow through the magic of the internet, I have a feeling I might already be included!)

Lets keep learning from each other!

Who Are You Talking To………But More Importantly….

Random Thoughts 6 Comments »

Who Is Listening To You??

In the last few days, I have been totally redoing my website as I move to a new location and I spent quite a bit of time working on my “Sessions” page. And in the last few weeks, I have spoken at 3 in-services at my school as well. Though I don’t present as much as some, I do feel that I have a nice little portfolio growing of sessions/in-services and am looking forward to some coming up in the next few weeks and months.

But when I stop and think about it, the people I am speaking to has turned into a daily occurrence — via twitter, my blogs, and emails — and I am realizing that I had forgotten their importance.

Yesterday, I had made a comment on twitter about my admin was listening to me, and a friend twittered back “When JLWagner speaks, every listens” — which is not entirely true……but in actuality there are a lot more people listening to me than I probably really give credit to.

And what kind of Jen am I letting them see? And what kind of Jen do I want them to see?

It is important to me that #1 I wish to be an Authentic. When you meet me F2F, I want you to feel that you already know me from our email, twitter, or blog conversations. I don’t wish there to be any — wow, she was much nicer on her blog or twitter. I want what you see to be what you get.

#2 — I want to be Tech-Smart. I have worked hard to make quality online projects for the PreK - 6th grade teacher. For 10 years I have learned, listened, read, listened, researched, listened, etc etc etc to make each project even better than the one before. I am not as smart as some, but when I know what I am talking about — I DO KNOW what I am talking about….and I wish to be respected for that.

#3 — I want to be an Encouragement and Cheerleader for all teachers using Tech and feeling un-noticed. I want to “HIP HIP HURRAH” for you and celebrate your successes and offer you support in your disappointments. Those baby steps will get you to the final destination — I promise.

But what I am realizing is the majority of my audience are people that I might never meet — and the only Jen they will ever see will be Virtual Jen — and I have a responsibility to them. To keep them in the back of my mind at all times, because I can forget that they are there.

Smiles, I might have only 59 people I follow in twitter…..but I have 300 that follow me……..and what I might say to ONE will probably be read by many more. And I need to remember that.

I only have 38 subscribers to my blog……….but I believe that I have more readers than that……….and I need to remember that.

WOW2 has about 40 people who enter the chat room each week……….but we have many many more who listen…and I need to remember that.

My current project has 415 teachers enrolled so far, which could be 12,000+ students and 1,000 parents plus admin and more…………and I need to remember that.

My upcoming sessions could have 600 attendees but my resources, handouts, and powerpoints…..are available on line to whoever………and I need to remember that.

I never want the professional Jen to overwhelm the personable Jen…….but I do wish to be respected in my field…….and perhaps by stopping to remember WHO is listening and not just Who I “think” I am talking to, I hope to continue on the road to that goal.

Just My Thoughts Today.
